Teething sucks. Like, really, really sucks.
As a parent I can’t imagine what my baby is going through. I think about how it would feel to have hard, sharp little teeth trying to rupture up through my gums. OUCH.
I don’t particularly care for most “modern” methods of dealing with teething. Orajel, tylenol and ibuprofen have negative side effects that I don’t want to risk. Homeopathic teething tablets are hard to come by now since the whole internet scare.
Luckily, there is orange essential oil. Orange oil is a natural analgesic – meaning it is numbing. You can use it straight, where most oils need to be diluted for babies and young kids. Put a drop on your finger and rub it on your own gums to see what it feels like. It creates just a slight numbing sensation, which means it will not numb the throat to interfere with swallowing.
Use caution, as always, when applying essential oils to your kids. Watch for any signs of discomfort and discontinue use if you see something that indicates the child is reacting poorly. I recommend using a high quality oil rather than the inexpensive ones you might find at local health food stores to minimize risk and increase potential benefits.
If you have any questions about using orange essential oil on your child, please ask one of the doctors in the clinic or feel free to contact us.
