Hi, my name is Kellie, and I am prone to migraines.
I know firsthand how painful and debilitating they can be, and how profoundly they can affect your life.
I was a very young child when I began having these headaches, and I continued to have them into my 20s. It wasn’t until I began regular chiropractic care that I saw a sharp decrease in both the frequency and severity of the headache, as well as the symptoms that came with them.
I won’t lie to you – I still get a migraine on occasion. However, I usually see it coming from miles away. The scenario is usually this: I’m stressed out of my mind, I’ve been eating sugary foods, drinking too much coffee, and not sleeping nearly enough. Sound familiar? We all go through periods of time like this, when we simply are neglecting our bodies. Here’s the kicker for me though – I haven’t been adjusted for ages. When I get adjusted on a regular schedule, even with all of these awful lifestyle habits, my body responds to these stressors differently.
We all have stress, right? Physical, chemical, emotional. It’s there whether you recognize it or not. The difference between the person who has a bunch of stress and is healthy, vs. the person who has a bunch of stress and is getting migraines, is what they do to neutralize it. In another post later this month I will give you some ideas on how you can alleviate pain and neutralize the stress that leads to migraines, but for now I am going to say this: chiropractic adjustments are the fastest, easiest, most effective way of neutralizing stress. Therefore, adjustments are the best and quickest fix to your migraines.
Chiropractic adjustments will do three things –
- Allow you to respond better to your environment. Too much caffeine? Overhead fluorescents? Baby kept you up all night? No big deal – you shake these things off and move on with your life. Adjustments put your body back into rest mode.
- Calibrate the dilation/constriction of blood vessels in your head and neck. Your nerves control all blood vessels, and migraines (as well as other types of headaches) arise when the vessels in the head are dilated – which causes that pounding feeling.
- Free up irritated nerves in your head and neck. When your spine is in good motion, nerves are not irritated, discs don’t bulge, and muscles relax.
If you haven’t been checked by a chiropractor before, it’s time to start taking care for yourself and living your life more fully. Trust me, after over 15 years of dealing with pain and suffering, I can tell you it’s much better on this side.
