It is time for your New Year’s Resolution Check In! Did you know that more than half of Americans make New Year’s resolutions but only 8% of those who do succeed in meeting their goals.
I don’t say this to get you down but to let you know if you have been slacking in your goals lately-you are not alone. Now is a good time to re-evaluate and I have a solution for you. Get. More. Sleep.
Before you start the eye rolling, hear me out. Keeping New Year’s resolutions requires a lot of energy, will power, and focus and if you are sleep deprived, you will likely lack in all of these departments. According to Dr. David Wagner, a sleep expert at the University of Oregon’s Lundquist College of Business, “When you’re tired you lack the self-control to eat healthy, and the focus to be productive. If you want to reach those New Year’s resolutions you need to gather the power to pursue them. That power can come through sleep that is better, longer, and more regular.”
If you want to get the most benefits of a good night’s sleep work to have a good night time routine. Just getting your 7-9 hours of sleep is great but staying consistent with your bed time and rising time is key.
So if you have slacked on that New Year’s resolution don’t worry! Maybe switch it up to one lifestyle choice (that is what I would call a New Year’s resolution success!) that has the most effect on your overall well being. A good night’s sleep.
